Brenau Fashion Network Annual Clothing Drive

Brenau Fashion Network is holding its annual clothing and accessory drive during the entire month of October. This special project adopted by BFN will benefit the Gainesville women's shelter, Gateway House. Collection boxes for gently used clothing and accesories will be placed throughout the Brenau campus.

Brenau Faculty Exhibit: Distinctive Revelations

This year's faculty exhibit will be the embodiment of information, ideas, self expression, humor, and personal values of the Art and Design faculty. These artists' and educators' perceptions, responses and experiences are revealed through their creative disciplines including fashion, photography, drawing, painting, graphic design, interior design, ceramics and sculpture.

Exhibit: Lois Mailou Jones: The Early Works

Lois Mailou Jones was one of the first female African-American painters to depict African imagery in her work and has been heralded as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Jones' works are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among other major collections. On display are nearly 50 designs for fabric and wallpaper created at the outset of her seven decade career.

Exhibit: Liliana Porter

The focus of the 2009 Brenau University Museum Education Program. Born in Argentina, New Yorker Liliana Porter creates works that reflect her desire to communicate a story to the viewer. She creates illusions by using items from her childhood, such as small games, ceramic figures, and toys and is heavily influenced by literary authors and other artists who force the viewer to redefine their view of art. Music and videos add depth to her enchanting stories thus giving more credibility and life to her whimsical characters.

Exhibit: Pragmatic Muse: Scientific Explorations in Art

This exhibit is an investigation of the applied arts to a variety of scientific fields including entomology, botany, cell biology, oceanography, paleontology, and animal and human biology. Artistic methods include traditional hand rendering processes and media including watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, airbrush, pen/ink, carbon dust and digital media.
