Middle Grades Education

The middle grades program prepares professionals to teach children in grades four through eight. Students develop a variety of appropriate teaching methods and strategies that are specifically geared to the middle grades learner.

Because middle grades instruction has more content emphasis, students choose two areas of concentration from the fields of:

bulletlanguage arts
bulletsocial studies
bulletmath
bulletscience.

Professional education includes field experiences that allow students to observe and participate in programs for children or young adolescents in a variety of settings. The program culminates in a student teaching experience.

Students must meet specific criteria for admission including a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrate proficiency in computational skills and oral and written communication skills.

In order to qualify for Georgia certification, prospective teachers must pass a licensing exam.
