What is Management?

Management is more than planning, organizing, and controlling resources as commonly defined in textbooks; it is the direction of human effort in all facets of business, industry, and government. Wherever and whenever people work together to reach a common goal, managers are needed.

Management is the process of working with and through others to achieve organizational objectives in a changing environment.

Every firm needs management. Some authors predict that there will be a major shortage of managers because of a lack of qualified people and a decline in the population of baby boomers. A manager's salary depends on the industry and the level of management at which one is employed; however, they are generally higher than the earnings of most other full-time workers.
