Our Goal:
Compensated Self-Sufficiency

" I think of learning disabilities like driving down a road and hitting      a pothole. The Learning Center helps you detour around the pothole."          Elizabeth Nachman Smith, WC '91

Brenau Organization for Learning Disabilities is a student club that  provides information about students with disabilities to other students, staff, and faculty. One of the club’s most exciting tasks is talking about Brenau’s Learning Center to prospective high school students and their parents.

For many years students have presented at Learning Disability Association (LDA) conferences in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Reno, Denver and Chicago.

The conference is a great experience for B.0.L.D. students.  Students  gain valuable information from other presenters and self-confidence by making presentations to a national audience.  B.O.L.D. student representatives also have a lot of fun.

Even though all colleges and universities provide accommodations, students with learning disabilities continue to face an uphill struggle in achieving the outcomes of the college curriculum.  Students annually present their experiences and tell how they were able to overcome common obstacles and achieve success in their academic and college activities.

B.O.L.D. students gather bi-monthly for informal meetings in Dr. Vince's office where they discover LC students with whom they share classes and majors. "We are in the same class!", "We have the same major." are warm exchanges that create a friendship network at the Learning Center.  Education majors share their field experiences in this environment in addition to students sharing their volunteer experiences in the Gainesville area.
