Program Requirements
Applicants to the Brenau Honors Program usually must have a score of 1200 on the SAT and a high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.5. To remain eligible, students must maintain a 3.2 GPA overall with a 3.5 GPA in their honors courses.
Honors courses are based on the general education curriculum as outlined in the Brenau University Catalog. Certain other courses are also included in the honors selections, and a student chooses six courses for the basic honors course requirements. These courses are usually completed by the end of the sophomore year.
To graduate with the distinction of Honors in Liberal Studies, a student is required to complete 21 credit hours, which includes a special Junior Year Seminar.
In addition, a student may elect to pursue High Honors in Liberal Studies, which requires a senior thesis or project for a total of six credit hours. This special honors project, spanning two semesters and guided by a tutor, consists of three credit hours of research and three credit hours of thesis writing.
