Helene Smith-Gabai earned a BA in psychology at Brooklyn College in 1978, an MS in occupational therapy at Columbia University in 1981, and her clinical doctorate in occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2004. She is currently a PhD candidate at Nova Southeastern University. Helene has worked in NY, SC and GA in numerous settings including acute inpatient and subacute rehabilitation, long term acute care, home health, and has been an instructor for two Arthritis Foundation community programs. Her main area of practice has been in the acute care hospital setting. Helene has also been the developer and moderator of the Georgia Occupational Therapy Association listserv, editor and one of the authors of the book Occupational Therapy in Acute Care, and was on the committee that developed AOTA’s board certification application in the area of physical rehabilitation.
