What will I learn new?
Licensed RNs already have many skills, including all of those required to provide excellent direct patient care. Therefore, this program is more about broadening professional perspectives than it is about deepening existing abilities. The program emphasizes such things as professional ethics, nursing research, community health, cultural diversity, health policy, comprehensive health assessment, leadership/management, and health promotion.
There is a “clinical practicum” course (NG 490R) taught in the last semester of the program. However this course is not at all like the clinical courses you took in your previous nursing education in which you learned to provide direct patient care. This course has a strong focus on leadership/management. The course is accomplished under the supervision of a mutually agreed upon preceptor in a facility convenient to you. You and the preceptor set your individual schedule.
Full-time or Part-Time?
We have both a full-time and part-time curriculum plan mapped for student choice. Full-time requires one calendar year and part-time requires two calendar years to complete the 31 credits of RN to BSN nursing courses.
Yes, it is indeed possible to accomplish the program without ever coming to any of Brenau’s physical campuses. We have graduates who have accomplished the program from as far away as Alaska.
When you apply to Brenau University and send official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher education, our transcript evaluator will determine which of your previously taken courses meet our requirements and which of our requirements still need to be accomplished.
