Andy Warhol: A Photographic Legacy
New acquisitions from the Brenau University Permanent Art Collection. Polaroids and 8x10" prints donated by the Andy Warhol Foundation as part of its Photographic Legacy Program. Exhibit dates: August 12 - October 12, 2008 (closed Aug 31 - Sept 1).

Body Image: Beyond Appearance
Co-Curator: Sally Hansell. This exhibit deals with preoccupation with an imagined defect in appearance and approaches a variety of results such as the use of surgery or eating disorders to make changes in one's appearance. We hope to scrutinize the idealized female image projected by the media that results in producing negative trends into our culture. Exhibit dates: August 26 - October 5 (closed Aug 31 - Sept 1)

Lois Mailou Jones: The Early Works
Lois Mailou Jones was one of the first female African-American painters to depict African imagery in her work and has been heralded as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Jones’ works are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among other major collections. Work in the Brenau exhibition is on loan from the Lois Mailou Jones-Pierre Noel Trust. On display are nearly 50 designs for fabric and wallpaper created at the outset of her seven decade career.

Distinct Revelations: Brenau Faculty Exhibit
This year’s faculty exhibit will be the embodiment of information, ideas, self expression, humor, and personal values of the Brenau University Art & Design faculty. These artists' and educators' perceptions, responses and experiences are revealed through their creative disciplines including fashion, photography, drawing, painting, graphic design, interior design, ceramics and sculpture. Exhibit dates: October 21 - December 13, 2008 (closed Nov 26 - 30)

Mid-Century Modern
Guest Curator: Lori Gann-Smith. An exploration of mid-20th century art and design as a portal between the old and the new; a gateway for new ideas and attitudes in fashion, art and décor — as well as women’s identities and societal roles. Exhibit dates: November 11, 2008 - January 25, 2009 (closed Nov 26 - 30, and Dec 21 - Jan 5)

Emily Grigsby
Exhibit dates: January 27 - March 29, 2009 (closed March 1 - 8)

Liliana Porter
Argentina-born, New Yorker, Liliana Porter creates works that reflect her desire to communicate a story to the viewer. She creates illusions by using items from her childhood, such as small games, ceramic figures, and toys and is heavily influenced by literary authors and other artists who force the viewer to redefine their view of art. Music and videos add depth to her enchanting stories thus giving more credibility and life to her whimsical characters. This exhibit is the focus of the 2009 Brenau University Museum Education Program. Exhibit dates: February 3 - March 29, 2009 (closed March 1 - 8)

Pragmatic Muse: Scientific Explorations in Art
This exhibit is an investigation of the applied arts to a variety of scientific fields including entomology, botany, cell biology, oceanography, paleontology, animal and human biology. Artistic methods include traditional hand processes and media including watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, airbrush, pen/ink, carbon dust and digital media. Exhibit dates: February 10 - March 29, 2009 (closed March 1 - 8)

Artist Talk   - 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm
Artist Liliana Porter speaks about her work. This talk is followed by a reception in all gallery spaces for all current exhibits.

The 2009 Brenau Collaborative
This exhibits showcases the work of graduating seniors from the Art and Design program, and juried work from current Brenau students. The 2009 Senior Projects and Portfolio Exhibits: Simmons Visual Arts Center and Leo Castelli Art Gallery. The 2009 Undergraduate Juried Exhibition: Presidents Gallery. Exhibit dates: April 17 - May 3, 2009
