Brenau University History
Brenau University was originally founded as a women’s seminary in 1878 and became a women’s college in 1900. The institution has grown through the years expanding its mission in 1972 to serve a larger population of adult and non-traditional students in convenient formats.
In an effort to serve more students, Brenau offered its first distance learning classes utilizing an asynchronous, online learning platform in the summer of 1998. By the spring of 1999, the Brenau University Nursing Department started its first cohort of students in the RN to BSN bridge degree program.
In Fall 2000, Brenau introduced its first online masters degree, an online Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program. Offerings have grown to include an online Master of Education degree program in Early Childhood Education, an MBA in Accounting, an MBA in Healthcare Management, a Master of Education degree in Middle Grades Education, and an MBA in Project Management.
Undergraduate degree programs include a BBA in Accounting, BBA in Business Administration, and a BS in Human Resources Management as well as an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies. The programs were introduced in response to the demanding schedule of today’s non-traditional adult student. Online classes offer maximum flexibility to the student constrained by time and/or location.
New this year, students are able to earn an Educational Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education, an Educational Specialist degree in Middle Grades Education or a Master of Science in Applied Gerontology degree entirely online!
