Back for her sophomore year after an outstanding performance at the NAIA Nationals last March is Sarah Fell (Brunswick, GA), had her best meet of the season at nationals, recording an 18th place finish in the 200 breastroke, and placing top 10 to 16 in the nation in all relays. One sophomore head up the list of new swimmers, Nicole Grasseschi (Atlanta, GA). Mafubo Ujeneza will be the only senior on the 2008-2009 Season. The freshmen who have been added to the roster include one dual sport athlete: swimming/cross country - Julia Ferreira (Indaiatuba, SP-Brazil). Also new first-years are: Megan Greely (Martinez, GA), Lauren Harville (Stockbridge, GA), Lucianne Kimura (Mogi das Cruzes, SP-Brazil), Carolyn Minchew (Acworth, GA), and Alex Hardy (Australia/2009 Spring Season).
Even though the team will be young they should be very competitive as they try to qualify as many swimmers as possible for the national swim meet in February. The team will compete in several meets during the season in preparation for the Appalachian Conference Championships, where they placed 5th out of 10 schools last year. Then, it will be on to 2008-2009 NAIA Nationals and the hope of improving on last season’s 13th place finish. Brenau Swimming Head Coach Gabby Matthews is very motivated in her second year. She believes that the team will only grow stronger to achieve desired maturity and success within the following years.
