What's Rowing?

Welcome to Brenau Rowing

Started in 1993 , the Brenau crew program offers rowing to Brenau undergraduates as a club sport.

Each year between 10 and 30 women (link to team roster)  take advantage of the opportunity to learn a new sport, improve their fitness, have fun on a team, and experience many other benefits (link to 10 reasons to row).  The unique aspects of rowing make it attractive to coxswains (under 105 lbs.), lightweights (up to 135 lbs) and open ( over 135) weight categories of rowers. Since most rowing activities are conducted on Lake Lanier, all team members must be comfortable in the water.

Most of the rowing activities are based at the Lake Lanier Rowing Center (picture), built for the 1996 Olympic Rowing and Canoe/Kayak events, where Brenau Crew houses its equipment (picture). The team also trains at the Brenau fitness center on campus (picture) where there are rowing machines (ergometers pic), weights, and cardio-vascular equipment.

Most of the women who row at Brenau start the sport during their first few years on campus.  Some choose to progress to competitive levels of the sport (picture of race start), for this reason rowing is offered during all three seasons (link to yearly schedule).

Coach Helena McGuire, herself a competitive masters rower , is interested in meeting prospective team members during their first week on campus. Interested students can use the "Want to Play" link on the left to send her a note so that she can contact you.
