Undergraduates Applying for Admission to the Teacher Education Program
The Application for Admission to the Teacher Education program is the first Checkpoint in your major program in the School of Education. Until you have passed this checkpoint, you cannot register for classes at the 300 level or above (with the exceptions of ED 301 and ED 311).
When should I apply for Admission to the Teacher Education Program?
The time varies, but usually you should complete all of the requirements by the beginning of your junior year.
What are the requirements to apply for Admission to the Teacher Education Program?
You must complete the following requirements:
- You need to have passed ED 206 (Developmental Psychology), ED 208 (School and Society), ED 243 (Classroom Speaking and Writing) and your first (200-level) field experience OR receive experiential credit for the first field experience.
- You need to have a 2.50 (minimum) overall GPA, with a 2.75 (minimum) GPA in your education courses.
- You must pass all sections of the Georgia Assessment for Certification of Educators Basic Skills Test or qualify for an approved exemption.

Applications should be submitted to your advisor at the earliest possible date after you have completed all requirements.
What materials are necessary for my application to be processed?
You should attach the following materials to your application:
- A Brenau Assessment of Dispositions form and a Field Experience Verification form from your first field experience. *If you receive experiential credit for your first field experience, you must attach an experiential credit confirmation letter.*
- A Brenau Speaking Rubric and a Brenau Writing Rubric from ED 243
- A copy of your Philosophy of Education Rubric from ED 208 (School and Society) OR a written philosophy of education if you did not take ED 208 at Brenau.
It is your responsibility to obtain and keep up with these documents.
Applications cannot be processed unless all required materials are included.
**You must also disclose whether you have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor by checking the appropriate box on the second page of the Application form. If you check yes, you must provide a copy of the criminal record report for your case.**  If this item has not been completed, your application cannot be processed.
When will I hear whether I have been accepted?
The Teacher Education Committee meets on a monthly basis to consider applications. You should be notified within 4 to 6 weeks of the vote. |
