Occupational Therapy Advanced Practice Certificates

Not ready to commit to a master's program? 

Advanced practice certificates are designed to assist practitioners to expand practice and leadership skills in an area of special interest. Certificates are available in the areas of Children's Services; Adult Neuro-rehabilitation and Hand Rehabilitation. Student may propose additional practice concentrations consistent with course offerings and faculty expertise. By obtaining an advanced practice certificate, practitioners will have increased knowledge about:

  • Advanced occupational therapy, occupational science theories
  • Advanced practice skills in selected specialty practice arenas
  • Organizational, legal, and ethical issues affecting practice
The coursework taken in the Advance Practice Certificate Program can be applied toward the Post-Professional Master's in Occupational Therapy. Additionally, coursework is intended to support practitioners seeking advanced practice credentials awarded by professional organizations.

Program
Certificate programs consist of coursework in advanced theory and advanced practice for a total of 12 credit hours. Required courses for all certificates are asterisked; adviser must approve specific coursework for each specialty area.

Class Schedules
Most classes offered by the Occupational Therapy Department will be offered in the evening format in Atlanta and/or Gainesville. Some may consist of a blend of on-ground and on-line formats. Students may also obtain permission to attend daytime classes Gainesville as needed to permit timely program completion.

Occupational Therapy Advanced Certificate Program Application Checklist

Thank you for your interest. Criteria for acceptance is

  • Undergraduate grade point average of at least a 2.5 from a regionally accredited institution
  • Proof of initial certification from AOTCB or NBCOT, or proof of licensure as an occupational therapist in any of the United States
  • Positive interview with adviser

In order to fully process your application, the following documentation is required:

  • Completed application form:
    a. Conditional Enrollment Form
    b. Compliance with Family Education Right Act Form
    c. Graduate Application for Admission
  • Official transcripts from all previous attended institutions beyond high school. These transcripts must come directly from the institution
  • An interview form completed by the student's occupational therapy adviser and forwarded to the Graduate Admissions office at Brenau University, Graduate Admission Office, 500 Washington Street SE, Gainesville, GA 30501
  • A copy of initial or current certification by NBCOT or AOTCB as an occupational therapist, registered or a copy of current licensure as an occupational therapist in any of the United States

To begin taking classes on Conditional Enrollment, the applicant must have a completed application, and application fee on file with the Graduate Admission Office. The application process must be completed and approved during the first semester of conditional enrollment to permit continued registration.
