| The
special education program is designed to prepare
professionals to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities in
public schools and community settings. Since the program includes
appropriate instructional practice for learners with intellectual
disabilities from preschool through grade twelve, students encounter a
wide range of academic experiences.
Students
pursuing this major spend extensive time in field placements to develop
professional competencies working with a variety of age groups.
Students
must meet specific criteria for admission
including a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrate
proficiency in computational skills and oral and written communication
skills.
In
order to qualify for Georgia certification, prospective teachers must
pass a licensing exam. |
