Undergraduate Special Education Department Chair:

The special education program is designed to prepare professionals to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities in public schools and community settings. Since the program includes appropriate instructional practice for learners with intellectual disabilities from preschool through grade twelve, students encounter a wide range of academic experiences.

Students pursuing this major spend extensive time in field placements to develop professional competencies working with a variety of age groups.

Students must meet specific criteria for admission including a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrate proficiency in computational skills and oral and written communication skills.

In order to qualify for Georgia certification, prospective teachers must pass a licensing exam.
