At the end of the 2006 season, the crew was proud of their progress and accomplishments. The team of first year rowers developed dedication to each other and the training program. This resulted in several important successes during the season including participation in several important regattas, a big step for the young program.
Two themes will dominate the fall program: returning rowers will focus on development of strength, endurance, and rowing efficiency, while new team members will learn the basics of rowing, experience the fun of being on the water, and find out what it is like to be part of the rowing team.
The fall season will aim at preparing for head races which are longer than the spring sprint races. Because of their length (5 km.), the head races place a premium on endurance and efficient rowing technique. One goal is to participate in the Head of Lanier, Oct. 14, on our home course.
During the winter phase, emphasis will shift to development of strength and power in preparation for other competitions. |
