Christina White, Director of Admissions, talks about the Women's
College.
www.brenau.edu:
Christina, in your opinion what is it that distinguishes Brenau University
from some of the other fine colleges in the area?
CHRISTINA: I think the
most important feature is the blend of tradition and the modern. The
Women's College of Brenau University has served residential and commuter
students for 125 years. The twenty-first century is the third century that
this college is in existence, and throughout this time, it has offered
high-quality academic and co-curricular programs from a woman's point
of view. This wealth of experience enables us to always keep a
step ahead of women's changing educational needs.
www.brenau.edu:: Where
does the university put the greatest emphasis?
CHRISTINA: The
University’s key values are reflected in our strong emphasis on a
broad-based liberal arts curriculum, which prepare graduates for their
many future roles. The Women's College, with its 30 majors and 41 campus
activities, is recognized for its outstanding instruction and for its
programs to develop leadership skills.
www.brenau.edu:: Isn't
it true that a lot of women's college graduates become some of the highest
achievers in the sciences, engineering... you know, fields that used to be
thought of as "male"?
CHRISTINA: Absolutely.
And this is not just limited to science majors. We also have
graduates in health care, business, mass communication, and education that
have advanced to very prominent positions in their field. Not to
mention the traditional arts and humanities, where Brenau has always been
one of the educational leaders.
www.brenau.edu:: If a
woman looking for a college education, or her parents, wanted to get a
look at what these students are doing, and how well they perform
academically, what would be a good place to start?
CHRISTINA: Our art
exhibitions are always popular. The gallery calendar shows events
well ahead of time. And, of course, there are our many on-campus
events where we host visiting high school seniors, women with family who
are looking to get back into college, you name it. These events are
well attended because they give everyone a chance to meet other students
and the faculty, as well as sampling campus life. And there is no
hard-sell kind of pressure. We simply enjoy being good hosts.
www.brenau.edu:: For
the web surfers, where would be the next place to look now?
CHRISTINA: Take a look
at our academic programs, and then maybe the campus life. Of course,
we also have information on financial aid at this website. There are
many exciting opportunities to earn a bachelor's, master's, or specialist
degree in our women's college setting.
