assistance to Georgia residents who demonstrate substantial financial
need. Students must apply for and be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
in order to be considered for LEAP assistance. Grant amounts vary and are

|
Federal Perkins Loan. The Perkins Loan is a low-interest (5 percent)
loan for students with exceptional need. Brenau University is the lender
and funds are limited. |
|
Federal Stafford Loan. The Stafford Loan is a
variable-rate low-interest loan that students may borrow through
participating lenders. Students who demonstrate need may borrow a
subsidized loan, with no interest accruing during periods of at least
half-time enrollment. Students who do not demonstrate need may borrow an
unsubsidized loan, which requires payment or capitalization of interest
during periods of enrollment. Annual loan amounts graduate upward
according to the borrower's grade level. Repayment of principal begins six
months after the student ceases to be at least a half-time student. All
borrowers are required to complete entrance counseling prior to receiving
the first disbursement. This may be done online at
www.nelliemae.com or at
www.bankofamerica.com/studentbanking. |
| State
Direct Loan. This loan is provided in limited amounts by the State of
Georgia for students who are enrolled in a program of study leading to
employment in critical professional fields where shortages exist within
the state. These loans are available to Brenau juniors and seniors
majoring in nursing or occupational therapy. The annual loan amount is
$2,000, and is awarded to the earliest applicants who meet the
qualifications. |
|
Federal
Work-Study. This program provides on-campus part-time employment
for students who demonstrate financial need. Students are paid the current
federal minimum wage. |
|

portion of it's financial assistance budget for institutional grants for
students who demonstrate need in excess of the amount met by federal and
state awards. |
