4, 2007 GREAT DECISIONS -2007 Part 2 -
Come learn and discuss world events! These open discussion classes based
on hot topics from the U. S. Foreign Policy Association are keyed to
current issues. Class consensus will be forwarded to the FPA. Monday,
10:45a.m. - 12:15 p.m.; Bill Falls is a graduate of Georgia State College
and is a retired Division Manager for Tyson Foods
IRISH FOLKLORE AND MUSIC - Come explore the
legends of Ireland, from fairies and banshees to giants, high kings,
saints and ferocious women. We will learn about Brian Boru, Finn MacCool
and Biddy Early and Queen Mabe. Discover Irish music, from Turlough
O'Carolan to the Chieftans. Monday, 1:00-2:30 p.m., Kathy Amos is the
BULLI director and previously has taught computer and literature courses.
COMPLEMENTARY AND INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE FOR HEALTH
- This course will cover the current state of complementary/alternative
medicine research and practice in the US; Foundations of Asian Medical
systems; Use of various modalities such as: therapeutic touch; reiki;
herbal remedies; reflexology; aromatherapy; massage therapy. We will also
review a shema on how to evaluate effectiveness of specific interventions.
Tuesday, 9:00 -10:30 a.m., Dr Mary Shotwell is a professor in the
Occupational Therapy department at Brenau and has taught previously for
BULLI.
ONE STROKE: FLOWERS AND FRUIT - Do you enjoy
painting but are afraid of a brush? Using one brush stroke, learn to
paint, shade and highlight a variety of flowers and fruits to complete a
canvas. Tuesday, 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Rhonda Clark is a certified one
stroke instructor and has previously taught for BULLI
GLOBAL WARMING: A SCIENTIFIC REVIEW - This course
will include a review of the science and history of global warming. What
is global warming and how does it work? What are the potential
consequences of and possible remedies for this much discussed phenomena?
Tuesday, 1:00-2:30 p.m. Leo Whalen has 40 years experience in the chemical
industry and has previously taught for BULLI.
INTRODUCTORY SPANISH: A CONTINUATION - Whether you
have taken the previous BULLI courses or just have a limited knowledge of
Spanish and wish to continue your studies, this class is for you! Class
conversations and unique teaching methods make this course fun and
informative. NOTE special time and cost. Class fee is $30.00! Tuesday,
3:15-4:45 p.m., Carrie Woodcock has lived in South America and is the
bilingual ESL instructor for Riverside Elementary. She has taught
previously for BULLI . AEROBICS WITH RHYTHM - Want to get fit for spring?
Join us for this low impact aerobics routine in conjunction with light
strength training and stretching. Music makes the rhythms fun! Wednesday,
9:00-10:30 a.m., Julia Anderson is certified in group fitness and teaches
aerobics at the Family Life Center.
REFORMATION IN HISTORY - The Reformation began in
1517, when Martin Luther nailed his ninety-five theses to a church door,
objecting to the church's selling of indulgences. This course will explore
the historical, political, religious and sociological impact of the
reformation then and in succeeding centuries. Wednesday, 10:45a.m. -
12:15p.m., John Eckhardt holds a Doctorate of Divinity and has taught
History and the Bible at Gainesville College while serving as a parish
pastor.
ALISTAIR COOKE'S AMERICA: PART 2 - We will be
using this BBC video series on American history and commentary through the
keen eyes of famed British-American journalist/raconteur, Alistair Cooke
as the basis for a discussion course on American history Explore America
from the 1840's to World War ii by viewing and discussing Cooke's
"America" television series. Wednesday, 1:00-2:30p.m., This class will be
facilitated by Bob Johnson, who is a BULLI member and has taught
previously for BULLI
THE INTERNET - This look at the many and varied
opportunities to enrich your life through surfing the computer, is
designed for those with good computer skills who wish to explore the net.
We will also cover email and the use of attachments. You should have taken
Intermediate Computer prior to taking this class or be proficient in
cutting and pasting. Wednesday, 2:45-4:15p.m., Kathy Amos has previously
taught computer for BULLI and is BULLI Director.
VOICES AND VISIONS: IRISH LITERATURE AND ART -
This course will focus upon modern Irish literature and art, with a
special emphasis on Irish women as writers and artists, subjects, muses
and social revolutionaries. We will read works by Yeats, Lady Gregory,
Joyce, Friel and others. View works of the ancient Celts as well as later
centuries' artists and artisans, with a focus on women in the arts and
crafts movement as well as 20th century moderns. Thursday 9:00-10:30 a.m.,
Debra Dobkins and Mary Beth Looney are Brenau professors and have taught
for BULLI.
SERMON ON THE MOUNT - What do you really know
about one of the best-known sermons ever taught? What does it mean when
someone says of the sermon, "It is the unattainable which we are bound to
obtain?" Come discover the message within the sermon! Thursday, 10:45a.m.-
12:15p.m., Dr. Bruce Morgan served as pastor of Griffin First Baptist
Church for 30 years and has previously taught for BULLI.
EARTHLY DELIGHTS - From soil and seeds to fragrant
flowers and edible plants, you'll delight in earth's bounty! Sessions will
include landscape design, nuisance plants and wildlife, veggies, herbs and
visits to several local gardens. Thursday, 1:00-2:30 p.m., Various
instructors and venues, including County Extension personnel, Mildred
Fockele of Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Oren McBee of Smithgall Woodland
Gardens and Hall County Master Gardeners. |
