On
Thursday, April 22, Joy Vinson Phillips became the third recipient of the
BULLI Scholarship, awarded by BULLI president, Irv Fisk at the Honors Day
Convocation held in Pearce Auditorium.
Several years ago, a BULLI Endowment Fund
was created to support projects important to BULLI students. From this
Fund and in appreciation to the entire Brenau Community, a BULLI
scholarship was created last year.
Specifically, this scholarship is to
provide financial assistance to an undergraduate student, in any
discipline in the Evening and Weekend College who demonstrates the values
reflected in the Brenau Ideal. |

The recipient of this year’s scholarship was
nominated from the School of Education. Joy is an Early Childhood
Education major. As a 35 year old mother of two, Joy decided to attend
college for the first time and work toward a degree. She drives to the
Gainesville Campus from Clayton to attend classes. Dr. Bill Ware, Dean of
the Brenau School of Education, said of Joy, “She is an excellent student
and she definitely reflects the Brenau Ideal.”
Now, in 2004, in a time when funding for college
students is increasingly difficult to find, BULLI is proud to award its
third scholarship. This scholarship will make a difference in Joy Phillips
life. If you have not yet contributed to the scholarship fund, please
consider it now. As you fill out your registration form for this term, you
may add a contribution to the Brenau Endowment Fund. You may also earmark
the check to be specifically given to the Scholarship fund by adding
“scholarship” to the “for” box on your check.

The Brenau Ideal
To find satisfaction in being
rather than in seeming; To find joy in doing rather than in dreaming; To
be prepared for service thereby earning the right to be served; To be pure
in heart; vigorous in mind, discreet in action; To love deeply, fear
nothing, hate never; To enjoy that freedom which comes from knowledge of
the "Truth"; To be modestly conscious of the limitations of human
knowledge and serenely confident of the limitless reaches of human
endeavor - This is the ideal of Brenau.
